Well, who doesn’t love a good struggle-to-fame story? Mekhi Becton glimmered in confetti and the kiss of the Lombardi Trophy had his moment at the Caesars Superdome as he sat down with his son. The 2020 NFL draftee reportedly shed tears as he reveled in the glory of winning the championship.
The New York Jets drafted Mekhi Becton in 2020 with the 11th overall pick. Becton was expected to anchor the Jets’ offensive line. However, his career was marred with constant struggles and injuries. From a standpoint of despair, the 25-year-old became the starting right guard in the championship-winning team after being a free agent last offseason.
Becton’s face said it all Sunday night after the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory. Sitting on the field with his son nestled between his legs, he took in the moment as tears streamed down his face.
After the game, Becton opened up to the Post, admitting that this has been the happiest in his life excluding the moment his son was born.
This is the happiest and most emotional I’ve ever been other than my son being born. As a player, this is something you dream about.
Mekhi Becton said
He also expressed that it took him a while to believe that they have defeated the Kansas City Chiefs and the fact he is a Super Bowl champion.
I’m one of those guys that’s going to work no matter what. I’m just going to keep my head down no matter what anybody says. I just work. Good things come to people who do good things. I’ve put the work in, and now I’m being rewarded for it.

Mekhi Becton dedicates win to his childhood town, Richmond
In the interview with The Post, Mekhi Becton admitted that he has dedicated the win to the town of Richmond, Virginia. He expressed that very few people from his part of Richmond town make it big in life, like reaching the Super Bowl and winning it. He went on to add that he was keeping the people from his hometown in his mind while he was playing the Chiefs on Sunday.

I’m a kid from Richmond, Virginia. People don’t make it out of Richmond from where I’m from. I’m not supposed to be here right now. I was thinking about that and thinking about all the people watching me back home. I was doing it for them, man.

Becton graduated from Highland Springs High School in the class of 2017. Earlier, Springers football coach Loren Johnson, a San Francisco 49ers fan, admitted that he and much of the Springers community are proudly supporting the Eagles this week.
“With Mekhi having this opportunity with the offense that they have, I’m pulling for Mekhi and Philly all the way,” Johnson said. Last season, Becton attended a Springers game against Hermitage and has frequently joined practices to mentor and coach student-athletes at his alma mater.
