A big shakeup could be on the cards within the coaching ranks at the Philadelphia Eagles. Nick Sirianni is quietly making moves behind the curtains as the Eagles gear up for the final five games of the regular season.
The Eagles are 8-4. Any fanbase would gladly celebrate that record at the start of December, just not the Eagles. They entered 2025 with only one goal in mind: a repeat of the 2024-25 season when they became world champions.
Sirianni’s team finds itself in this position after losing back-to-back games against the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears. That doesn’t mean they were running over teams prior to the losses. Aside from scoring 38 against the Giants, the Eagles won six games with a margin of five points or fewer.
Clearly, they had taken a step back from last year. Kellen Moore brought out the most from the Eagles’ offense before the hierarchy handed the keys to Kevin Patullo ahead of the 2025 season.
Patullo became the target of the fans’ scorn for the Eagles’ lackluster performances. Sirianni defended his offensive coordinator and longtime friend. He dismissed any reports about moving on from Patullo.
However, Sirianni’s actions behind the scenes paint a different picture. Tim McManus of ESPN revealed that Sirianni has increased involvement with the offense in the last few training sessions.
[Nick] Sirianni has been vocal in offensive meetings and has been presenting material alongside offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo… According to one source [inside the building], he has been addressing the group for longer than usual at the top of the meetings before ceding to Patullo, who continues to run them.
McManus wrote in his recent article

In no shape or form did McManus imply that Sirianni has taken over as the OC. The Eagles’ front office is mum on the matter. However, it won’t be out of the ordinary. Sirianni called plays for a few games in 2023 near the end of the season.
Fans don’t have a fond memory of that particular patch of the campaign. The Eagles went 1-6, including a wildcard loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Analyst shared the reason behind the Eagles’ stagnant offense in 2025
The Eagles’ offense shifted away from the traditional route-one football, which involved the heavy usage of wide receivers. Moore relied more on the run game and turned ‘tush push’ into his preferred weapon of choice.

Patullo applied the same philosophy. It doesn’t make much sense to change a winning formula. However, this ticked off AJ Brown and strained his relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Moreover, the Eagles lost their sharpness while executing plays that they used to in previous seasons. They won games, but the points tally witnessed a sharp decline. Currently, the Eagles are putting up 22.5 points per game, which ranks 19th in the NFL.
The lack of passing yards isn’t the only issue with the Eagles’ stagnant offense, the run game has disappeared, too. Former NFL quarterback turned ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky pointed that out in a recent segment of First Take.
Saquon [Barkley] last year, running the football on first down, ran for over 1,100 yards. 70 yards per game. This year, he’s averaging 38 yards running the ball on first down. You’re always in third-and-long, that’s why you have all these 3-and-outs. They don’t do one thing well, offensively.
Dan Orlovsky said
"It's the worst first-down offense in the NFL." 😯

Saquon Barkley racked up over 1,200 yards in 2024 after just thirteen weeks of football. Fast forward a year, and he’s sitting at 740 yards on 198 carries, with 6 rushing touchdowns and an average of 3.7 yards per carry, down from his 5.8 YPC in 2024.
It remains to be seen whether Sirianni can make a positive change ahead of the Eagles’ big showdown against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14. The Chargers are 8-4 and can’t be taken lightly.
