The Wembley Stadium in London hosted one of the biggest boxing events of 2024 on September 21. The highly anticipated fight between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois garnered the attention of several prominent boxers, including Devin Haney. Interestingly, Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn took a subtle jab at Haney for creating unnecessary chaos on his social media.
Both Hearn and Haney shared a good working relationship. The Matchroom boss promoted the ‘Dream’ for many years. Despite having such a good relationship, Haney went to rant against Hearn on X. All this was because the 25-year-old wanted seats to watch Joshua and Dubois fight. The boxing promoter seemingly didn’t like how Haney reacted and gave a befitting reply.
You asked me at 6 a.m. this morning. First I look after my fighters. Ask someone else and drop the arrogance.Eddie Hearn via X
Devin Haney has been causing quite a stir on social media and IRL (in real life) lately. He has taken verbal shots at other boxers, with his most recent target being Gervonta Davis. In addition, Haney has been reacting to various fighting events.
Most recently, he seemed impressed by Edgar Berlanga’s performance against Canelo Alvarez. However, amidst all this, the 25-year-old’s sudden outrage towards his former promoter stunned everyone. Matchroom Promotions signed Devin Haney in April 2019 when the boxer was 21-0 in his professional boxing career.
After representing Matchroom, he fought and defeated several formidable opponents. His last two remarkable wins came against Regis Prograis and Vasiliy Lomachenko. In 2024, he fought Ryan Garcia, which turned into a no-contest later due to failed drug test. Following that, he is yet to make his return to the boxing ring.
Eddie Hearn wants Devin Haney to pick an easy fight next
The recent fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia caused quite a stir in the community. Garcia, in particular, was given a year-long suspension from boxing by NYSAC for testing positive for Ostarine. However, that doesn’t take away from how well ‘KingRy’ performed against Haney. In a recent interview, Eddie Hearn recalled the Garcia vs Haney bout.
According to Hearn, he believed that it was a tough fight for the 25-year-old, and he wants Haney to pick an easier matchup next.
Interestingly, a few weeks ago, Hearn even teased a matchup between Haney and undefeated super-lightweight champ Liam Paro. After recent revelations, that fight might not take place as well.
I think Devin (Haney) should come back at the end of the year with an easy fight. That was a tough fight against Ryan Garcia... (When asked about a fight between Haney and Paro) I don't think so, no, no...Eddie Hearn via Fight Hub TV
The Matchroom promoter, in particular, is seemingly concerned about Haney struggling in a higher weight class. Not only that, Hearn also mentioned that he doesn’t want Haney to fight Garcia again. However, now it remains to be seen who the 25-year-old boxer fights next.
