Others claimed that football will no longer have gritty and technically gifted strikers like Cavani, who gave it his all for the badge. Many shared clips of him in tears after winning the Copa Libertadores semi-final with Boca Juniors against Palmeiras in 2023. A supporter commented that Cavani is without doubt, a better striker than Erling Haaland.

Others shared heartwarming moments of the player off the pitch, and spammed clips of his trademark celebration over the years. Some found it hard to believe that Cavani had six Ligue 1 titles and many other accolades to his name. Many even drew comparisons to Kylian Mbappe, who has just 56 goals more than the Uruguayan with 7 more appearances. Of all things, one thing is certain – fans will miss his trademark bow and arrow celebration.
