“Election is over Colby Covington your shtick is done, I want you, next boy!!!” Michael Chiesa gives a callout to Covington

‘The Maverick’ Michael Chiesa registered an impressive victory for his record with a win over Neil Magny at UFC Fight Night: Chiesa vs Magny. This is Chiesa’s fourth consecutive win in the Welterweight division and now he seeks tougher challenges.
Chiesa registered his last two victories over Rafael Dos Anjos and the latest against Neil Magny that made his position strong in the Welterweight division. Maverick showed different levels of the ground game for which Magny seem to have no answer.
After his win, he gives a callout to the number one ranked Welterweight fighter, Colby Covington. Chiesa says, “Election is over Colby Covington your shtick is done. I want you, next boy!!!” In the post-match press conference, he explains why he called Covington out.
Chiesa added, “Because he’s the toughest matchup for me, Stylistically, that guy should beat me on any given Sunday. From a physical standpoint, from a mental warfare standpoint, there’s not a lot of boxes you can check that favor me for that fight.”
“But how can I say I want to be a champion if I don’t want to fight these guys? Sometimes the best guys are the ones that are the toughest for you stylistically. So when I look at the top-five, I think that’s the hardest fight for me.”
“We’ll see what happens. If I come up short, I come up short but I want the best so I’ve got to fight the best and that’s the guy.”
Chiesa is uncertain that his callout will get Covington’s attention
Michael Chiesa certainly wants to face tougher challenges and more fights with top 5 ranked Welterweights but he is uncertain that this callout will get Colby Covington’s attention or not.
Chiesa says, “Not a lot of guys are asking to fight Colby Covington, The only guys I can think of is me and Belal Muhammed and Gilbert Burns. Burns asked to fight him. But we’ll see what happens.”
“That was a shot from the hip. Usually going into a fight, I’m always kind of thinking about who I’m going to call out next and kind of having an idea in my head. This fight, it was a clean slate, and I don’t know maybe I should be a pro wrestler or something, that was totally from the hip.”
“We’ll see what happens, If he gets the Jorge Masvidal fight, more power to him. That’s a big fight. They probably do The Ultimate Fighter or something. We’ll see what happens, but you’ve got to shoot your shot in this sport.”
