Elena Rybakina registered an easy win over Germany’s Greet Minnen 6-2, 6-3 on Tuesday (May 28th) at Roland Garros. After the match, during the press conference, the Kazakh seemed unimpressed with the repetitive questions of the journalists.
Rybakina was asked how she felt physically as compared to last year when she had to withdraw from her second match. Then the journalist asked how the conditions affected her during the match against Minnen.
No, it didn't affect me in any way. I mean I know how to play in different conditions, so I mean for sure physically I am much better than last year since I had to withdraw as I had Covid but I am much better. The questions are quite the same, so I don’t know what to say anymore.Elena Rybakina said
A journalist asked her what are the things she needed to do to lift a title. Rybakina said she just does the basic things.
It's quite basic, you need to work hard. Do usually the things usually you don't want to do. And…simple questions, simple answers. So, guys, something else?Elena Rybakina added

Rybakina certainly seemed unimpressed with similar questions one after the other. Watching the video, some called her arrogant while others defended her by saying how some questions are usually inane.
Netizens react to Elena Rybakina’s answers during the press conference
A fan said Elena Rybakina doesn’t know how to answer questions and if the same question was asked to Novak Djokovic or Naomi Osaka, they would have given some interesting answers. At the same time, another fan felt that it must be tiring for the journalists to ask the same questions again and again.
A fan simply called the journalists annoying, while a few said these journalists don’t watch the match and end up asking generic questions. One fan wrote that the journalists should ask her about her stance on the Russia-Ukraine war.
Another fan defended the journalists by saying it’s Rybakina’s answers that are boring, while one fan joked, saying the journalists should ask the Kazakh questions like “Is water wet?” or “What’s your favorite conspiracy theory?“

Those journalist are annoying

Ask her for her stance on the war in Ukraine. See if she likes that line of questioning.

Can’t be easy to keep coming up with interesting questions after every single match for every player round after round … ‘course it can get repetitive for both parties?♀️
— Nina (@Nina_Brtt) May 28, 2024
These are normal questions, its her answers that are boring and have no substance.

You ask Djokovic and Osaka the same questions and they give more thoughtful answers.
You could give all kinds of interesting details on how the court plays with the roof on ?
Questions reporters should ask her instead:
— Brian Frick (@bmfrick) May 28, 2024
1. Is water wet?
2. Is a hotdog a sandwich?
3. What’s your favorite conspiracy theory?
4. Does pineapple belong on pizza?
5. Window seat or aisle seat on an airplane?
6. Would you rather be able to speak all languages or talk to animals
Really lazy and basic questions. I as a fan don’t find the answer to these questions insightful regardless who is answering. We also don’t need to parade the players in front of the media this often in the early rounds. There isn’t anything to talk about.

They tried asking her questions about movies and music and she still was unable to answer so I don't blame the press entirely. She seems to have no interests outside of tennis therefore they are forced to ask her tennis related questions!

I detect a bit of arrogance here. Meeting with the journalists is part of what an athlete has to face. It might seem repetitive at times but they deserve respect as well…

After her first-round win, Rybakina will be facing Arantxa Rus, who defeated former World No.1 and three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber 6-4, 6-3. This will be the third time they will face, having previously locked horns in the 2018 US Open and 2022 Roland Garros.
