Former world No. 13 Elena Vesnina recently spoke with Championat about Daniil Medvedev‘s chances at the first Masters 1000 event of the 2025 season. She shared her views on how he might perform, considering his current form and past results.
Medvedev is still trying to get back to his best form, but his recent performances in Doha and Dubai are encouraging. In Qatar, he played well at the ATP 500 event but got food poisoning. This affected his game, and he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals.
Daniil Medvedev is searching for himself. He can play well in Indian Wells, even if he suffers there and tells us he doesn’t like it. Daniil’s game is developing there. Everything will depend on his state of mind.
Elena Vesnina said on Championat
Medvedev recovered in time for the Dubai ATP 500. He reached the quarterfinals with solid wins against strong opponents. In his match against Tallon Griekspoor, he led by a set and a break but ended up losing in the third set after missing four match points. This defeat was frustrating for him.
The 2021 US Open champion knows he needs to stay patient. Despite his recent struggles, there are signs that his form is improving. Medvedev will compete at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where he has done well in the past. He reached the final in 2023 and 2024 but lost to Carlos Alcaraz each time.
Daniil Medvedev hopes for resurgence at Indian Wells
Daniil Medvedev is always a strong contender at Indian Wells and could pose a serious threat in his part of the draw. He might face Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals, which could be an intense match. Medvedev’s skill on hard courts makes him a dangerous opponent for anyone.

Alexander Zverev is the top seed in this tournament, with Jannik Sinner absent due to a suspension for failing a drug test last year. Zverev will start his campaign against either Tallon Griekspoor or Miomir Kecmanovic. If he advances, he could play Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the third round and either Tomas Machac or Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, who recently won in Dubai, could meet Zverev in the quarter-finals. Tsitsipas’s form makes him a strong challenger. If Zverev and Medvedev both progress, they could clash in the semi-finals, which would be a highly anticipated match.
On the other side of the draw, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz could face each other in the quarter-finals. Their previous match was one of the highlights of the year, and another battle between them would add to the excitement of the tournament.
