Elina Svitolina earned her place in the fourth round at Wimbledon after beating two-time Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur. The Ukrainian had reached the semifinals last year, losing to 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova, but this year, she had to take inspiration from her husband Gael Monfils’ loss yesterday.
Svitolina maintained an upper hand in the match as she saved a match point in the second set. Svitolina and Jabeur had earned ten winners in the first set, but the Ukrainian capitalized on the Tunisianace’s 11 unforced errors while giving away two. Jabeur responded in the second set, hitting fiercely while down 1-4.
She won four of the six game points sending the match to a tiebreak, but Svitolina restored her composure to see through to her 6-1, 7-6(4) victory over Jabeur. However, her husband Monfils had played the previous day losing to Grigor Dimitrov 3-6, 4-6, 3-6 in the third round. Monfils had beaten Stan Wawrinka but Dimitrov’s technical prowess was too much for the 37-year-old French.
After the victory, Svitolina admitted that she was inspired by the way Dimitrov beat her husband to beat Jabeur.
It was really disappointing that Gael lost, but Grigor played unbelievable and I was a little bit inspired by his performance yesterday. Also, with the support of Gael today here. Its really amazing to have him here next to me. Always supporting, always being there for me, it's special.Elina Svitolina said in her on court interview
Svitolina improved her head-to-head lead against Jabeur to 4-1, as they met on the grass court for the first time. The Ukrainian will hope to take the form into the second week at Wimbledon.

Elina Svitolina to play Chinese World No.42 Wang Xinyu in the fourth round at Wimbledon
Elina Svitolina‘s win against Ons Jabeur was her first Top 10 since her famous victory over Iga Swiatek in the 2023 Wimbledon. The Ukrainian had gone on six consecutive losses against a Top 10 since July last year.
However, with a victory over the two-time Wimbledon finalist, she now has the potential to reach the final. Before that, she would take on Chinese World No.42 Wang Xinyu in the fourth round. It will be the first meeting between both. Xinyu defeated British No.2 Harriet Dart 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 in two hours and 18 minutes.
Wimbledon makes it over a year since Svitolina returned from her maternity leave last year. She has now reached the second week of five of the six Grand Slam events she has competed in, including a quarterfinals at the 2023 French Open and 2023 Wimbledon semifinal.
