In a surprising challenge on Wednesday, Olympic champion Noah Lyles faced popular streamer IShowSpeed in a 50m dash. In this $100,000 race challenge, Lyles would overcome Speed despite his slow start. Elly De La Cruz would later comment on it and make a huge claim.
The Cincinnati Reds star is considered by many as one of the fastest players in the MLB. During his debut season in 2023, the switch hitter showed off his incredible speed, which led to comparisons with Tyreek Hill and Usain Bolt.
Noah Lyles won an Olympic gold in the 100 m race during the 2024 Olympics. As a result of this, many expected him to win easily against Speed. The 27-year-old athlete nearly ended up losing to the streamer which ignited wild reactions on social media.
De La Cruz was one of them who reacted to it. Reposting a clip on X, the 22-year-old stated that he could beat both of them for sure.
They think they’re fast! I’ll beat them for sure.

It’s hard to predict whether De La Cruz can actually beat them, especially Lyles in a race. Given his record and agility, he could put up a good fight, though. Only time will reveal if the Reds’ star can back this huge claim in the future.
Elly De La Cruz was named as Silver Slugger finalist for 2024 season
After finishing the 2023 season with a positive 82-80 record, there were some expectations that the Cincinnati Reds could improve from this record with the talent they had. Unfortunately, that was not the case, as they ended up with a negative 77-85 record in 2024.
In this dark season, there was one player in Elly De La Cruz who shined bright. For his performances throughout the year, he was named as a Silver Slugger finalist.

De La Cruz’s breakout season continued this year. The 22-year-old led his team in home runs with 25 and had a league-high 67 stolen base while batting with a .259 average and a .810 OPS. This saw him being nominated for the Silver Slugger Award alongside his teammate Jonathan India.

I feel good about this year, really good. I’m just going to enjoy my offseason, come back next year and do better. I will work on everything. I want to get better every day at everything.
