Andy Murray’s career at Wimbledon is over following Emma Raducanu’s withdrawal from their planned mixed doubles first-round match. The 21-year-old was due to play alongside Murray on Saturday evening but withdrew due to some stiffness in the right wrist.
The 2021 US Open champion reached the fourth round of women’s single category at Wimbledon yesterday after beating Greek ace Maria Sakkari in a straight set in an hour and 30 minutes at the Centre Court. The British star now looks to be focused on her singles match as she will face New Zealand qualifier, the World No.123 Lulu Sun in the fourth round.
If she beats Lulu, she will either face Donna Vekic or World No.93 Paula Badosa. With few games, the 21-year-old could see herself in the semifinals of Wimbledon.

On the other hand, Murray couldn’t get fit to play his final singles at Wimbledon due to a back injury. The 37-year-old suffered the injury at the Queen’s Club Championship, which made him undergo an operation a few days before Wimbledon’s kick-off. However, he partnered with his brother Jamie Murray at the doubles, but they lost in the first round itself.
He was given an emotional farewell ceremony by the organizers, but he also had in mind to play alongside Raducanu at the mixed doubles. The English star had spoken highly about the mixed doubles partnership, but less than six hours before playing against China’s Zhang Shuai and El Salvador’s Marcelo Arevalo, she withdrew.
Unfortunately, I woke up with some stiffness in my right wrist, so therefore I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles tonight. I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care.Emma Raducanu said via LTA
Murray is planning to retire later this year, playing his last singles match at the Paris Olympics, which kickstarts on July 27.

Why did she even agree to do doubles if she wanted to focus on singles anyway? She was fine taking all the Murray PR this week ?

Raducanu also rejected the Paris Olympics wildcard offered to her by the British Olympic Committee. The 21-year-old stated that she was focused on getting back to form before the summer hard court season.
