Emma Raducanu and Aryna Sabalenka were engaged in a battle in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters on Monday (August 11). A clip of an incident that happened during the third set has gone viral.
The score was tied at 1-1. At deuce with Raducanu leading 4-3 in the third set, and was about to serve, she started to complain about a child who was crying. She could be heard saying to the umpire, “It’s been like 10 minutes“.
It’s a child. Do you want me to kick the child out of the stadium?
The chair umpire responded
Raducanu simply shrugged and smiled when some fans started to yell “yes“. Next, the chair-umpire said, “I can call in, but we need to continue for the moment“.
Raducanu served and won the point thanks to an unforced error from Sabalenka. The Belarusian, who was working a lot on her net game with new coach Max Mirnyi before the clash with Raducanu, yelled and threw her racket when she couldn’t send the ball above the net to her opponent’s side.

The match lasted for three hours and nine minutes- Sabalenka’s fourth-longest match of her career. It was also the first time Raducanu won a set against the three-time Grand Slam champion. The Brit, yet to reach a final since her fairytale run at the 2021 US Open, now trails 0-3 in the head-to-head matchups with Sabalenka.
Raducanu also made her second appearance in the tournament following the 2022 season, and then, too, her run ended in the third round. Her best performance in a WTA 1000 came this year at the Miami Open, as she reached the quarterfinals but failed to beat eventual runner-up Jessica Pegula.
Aryna Sabalenka finds it hard to deal with the heat in Cincinnati
The hot and humid conditions in Cincinnati are causing problems for the players, so much so that Daniil Medvedev simply put his head inside a fridge when he was finding it harder to play during his opening-round match against Adam Walton. Aryna Sabalenka, right after beating Emma Raducanu, took an ice bath.

The whole time I was like, this is what they call ageing, this is how it is to feel old. I looked at Emma, and she was there ready to play the next point, and I was there still trying to recover my breath. I was like, what’s going on? I could not believe I am getting old. I looked at Jason [Stacy, her fitness coach], and he didn’t say anything, but we need to do something because I am getting old.
Sabalenka will next be locking horns with Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, who breezed past Taylor Townsend in the previous round and also defeated seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus Williams in the first round.
The World No.1 holds a 1-0 head-to-head lead over the Spaniard, beating her in the second round of this year’s Australian Open, which she failed to defend due to her three-set defeat to Madison Keys in the final.
If Sabalenka wins the tournament, she will become the first woman after 23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams (2014-2015). Last year, she beat Jessica Pegula, who was also her opponent in the US Open final.
The first seed has nine WTA 1000 titles to her name, two of which she captured this year by beating Pegula and Coco Gauff in the Miami Open and Madrid Open finals, respectively. Wuhan Open is the only WTA 1000 tournament she has won two times in a row (2018-2019). Sabalenka is also chasing her fourth title of the season after victories in Brisbane, Miami, and Madrid.
