Emma Raducanu is over the moon after her second-round win against Elise Mertens at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. She expressed delight at the opportunity to extend her run at the tournament with an emphatic win.

Raducanu dominated Mertens right from the start by breaking early. She made it a double break soon and took the first set 6-1. The Belgian tried to mount a comeback in the second set but failed in her efforts. She was unable to keep up with Raducanu’s levels, losing the set 6-2, and exiting the tournament.

The vocal home crowd cheered for Raducanu throughout the match and she reciprocated the love in an interview after the match.

The Briton has had a strong run on grass courts this season. She made the semifinals at the Nottingham Open and followed it with a quarterfinal exit at the Eastbourne International. She entered Wimbledon on a high and has built on it to reach the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2021 US Open.

Emma Raducanu is one of the most loved players at Wimbledon this year. Fans have been turning up in numbers to catch her in action and cheer for her. After the dominant win against Elise Mertens, she expressed delight at the reception this year and even hailed Court 1 as her favorite.

Raducanu said

The 21-year-old will face either Maria Sakkari or Arantxa Rus in the third round at SW19. She leads the former 1-0 in the head-to-head while she is yet to lock horns with the latter on the WTA tour.
