Emma Raducanu crashed out of the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon when she lost in three sets to New Zealand’s Lulu Sun on Sunday (July 7) on the Centre Court. After the match, Raducanu admitted that there are areas in her game she needs to improve.
Raducanu played the fourth round of Wimbledon for the second time, having reached it before in 2021- the same year she lifted her maiden Grand Slam title by winning the US Open. The 21-year-old feels she is not consistent enough but is determined to work on herself.
There are areas I need to keep improving. Certain things I have been doing better throughout the grass court season. I think I improved a few things. My serve got better. But I think I need to work on the consistency of it. Being good every day, not just like some days. It honestly makes me more determined.Emma Raducanu said at the press conference
Raducanu in an earlier interview revealed she lacked the motivation to play tennis after her surgeries on her two wrists and ankle but has fallen in love with tennis again. She reiterated the same after her loss and said she will not stop working hard.
I think I really put myself first in the last few months. Now, tennis is the only thing that’s really occupying my time, my mind… it’s all I want to do. I think that desire and fire are back. I just want to keep building on that.Emma Raducanu added
Before her Wimbledon campaign, Raducanu played two grass-court tournaments in Nottingham and Eastbourne and reached the semifinals and quarterfinals respectively. At the SW19, she knocked out Renata Zarazua, Elise Mertens, and Maria Sakkari in the previous three rounds.
Emma Raducanu is still searching for her second WTA title
The loss at Wimbledon also ended Emma Raducanu‘s search for her second career title on the WTA Tour. Raducanu’s first title was the 2021 US Open, which she won by beating Leylah Annie Fernandez 6-4, 6-3, becoming the first player in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam as a qualifier without dropping a set.
She has played many tournaments but unfortunately, she couldn’t lift a trophy. Raducanu, who was once outside the Top 300 during her debut season on the WTA Tour in 2021, made a great leap the next year and found herself standing in the Top 10.
But now, the Brit is World No. 135 because of the three surgeries last year. After Wimbledon, tennis matches will be played at the Olympics at Roland Garros, but Raducanu has rejected the wild card.
