Emma Raducanu enjoyed an exciting comeback season this year in the WTA Tour. But her frequent coaching changes have become a metaphorical stick in recent years. She has been caught in the media because of it but has now finally dismissed the claim by stressing she’s a very “loyal person.”
From 2021 to 2023, Raducanu parted ways with five coaches. The 22-year-old was heavily criticized after she fired Andrew Richardson shortly after winning the 2022 US Open. The British star received huge criticism as many couldn’t believe that she split with the same coach who helped her win her first major title.
After that, she had short spells with Nigel Sears, Torben Beltz, and Dmitry Tursunov. However, this year, Raducanu has managed to go through a full season with only just one coach. After undergoing surgery in May 2023, she parted ways with Sebastian Sachs and tried seeking someone who understands her. She found it in the name of Nick Cavaday, her childhood coach.
She has strengthened her relationship with Cavaday and will add prominent fitness coach Yukata Nakamura to her team ahead of the 2025 season. Raducanu dismissed the narrative that she only hires a coach for a short period.
Raducanu hopes to continue with Cavaday throughout the 2025 season, as she has already revealed that she wants to be physically better on the court. The British star ended the year with three wins at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Malaga.
Emma Raducanu admits she’s not setting any specific goals for the 2025 season
After Emma Raducanu won the 2021 US Open, she continued with the momentum the following year. She reached her career-high ranking of World No. 10 in July 2022. However, that year, she played 36 matches on the WRA Tour. It is worth noting that she played three short of that tally in the 2024 season.
In the aforementioned interview, she was asked if her goal was to be in the Top 10 by the end of the 2025 season. Raducanu revealed that she’s staying away from setting too specific goals and want to enjoy her time on the court.
Raducanu will open her 2025 season at the Auckland Open in New Zealand, which starts on the 30th of December. The British star will use the tournament as a warm-up for the Australian Open.
