Emma Raducanu recently made astonishing gestures to ensure that her controversy with tennis legend Andy Murray is put to rest. Just after the British star secured her place in the third round of the Australian Open by beating Amanda Anisimova, she clarified that tensions between them no longer exist.
Raducanu’s controversy with Murray began after her last-minute withdrawal from the mixed doubles of the 2024 Wimbledon Championship. The 21-year-old had previously agreed to play alongside the 37-year-old, which will mark his last match in the tournament. Surprisingly, after securing her place in the third round of the singles, she decided to walk away from the agreement.
That led to huge criticism from fans as they were deprived of witnessing the legend one more time on the Wimbledon court. However, six months have passed since the incident happened. Murray has retired and is backing and mentoring Djokovic at the Australian Open, while Raducanu is seeking for good run at the Grand Slam event after an injury-ridden 2024 season.
During her press conference at the Australian Open, Raducanu said that she sent a long apology to Murray after the controversy. Adding that the British legend was disappointed but yet understood the reason for withdraw.
Raducanu added that she met Murray after her first and second straight-sets victory over Anisimova, and he congratulated her for her performance. The two British compatriots have gotten over the issue. However, fans will hope it doesn’t repeat itself between another player.
Iga Swiatek praises Emma Raducanu ahead of their third-round tie at the Australian Open
Emma Raducanu is set to face Iga Swiatek in the third round of the Australian Open. The former is yet to drop a set in the tournament and has performed brightly against Ekaterina Alexandrova and Amanda Anisimova. But against Swiatek, it will be a difficult test for the British star, who is still struggling with physical problems.
Nonetheless, it isn’t only Raducanu who should be worried about the match; Swiatek, too, should be worried. In fact, the World No.2 was full of praise for the British star and added that she expects the clash to be a tough one.
Swiatek and Raducanu have faced each other three times, with the Polish star winning all three meetings. However, the last time they met was at the Stuttgart Open, where Swiatek had to battle hard for a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
