Emma Raducanu has been under heavy spotlight since claiming the US Open in 2021, especially because of changing coaches. The British star recently parted ways with an experienced coach, Vladimir Platenik, after just two weeks of working together. She finally gave reasons for the split, stressing it wasn’t the right time for it.

Raducanu had one of the worst start to the season after just winning two of her six opening matches. The Grand Slam champion then parted ways with Nick Cavaday after the Middle East swing and hired Platenik for a two-week trial basis. However, several sources reported that the partnership was meant to be extended until the clay season.

Surprisingly, before the Miami Open, Raducanu fired Platenik and she’s currently without a coach at the tournament. Nonetheless, she has played some great tennis. In fact, she made history by reaching her first WTA 1000 quarter-finals at the event. She also earned her first Top 10 win since July last year after defeating Emma Navarro in the second round of the Miami Open.

After earning her place in the quarter-finals, she was asked why she parted ways with Vladimir Platenik before the tournament. The British star first praised the legendary before pointing out that their partnership wasn’t right at that time.

I think the work that we did before the tournament. I mean, it wasn’t long, it was only maybe two weeks or 10 days, but we did some really good work, and I think getting some benefits on the match courts right now from what we did. He is a great coach, he is so experienced and has worked with so many players and brought them up to the top and developed players. I respect him a lot as a coach. I think, for me, it just, I guess, wasn’t right at the time, and I’m not sure going forward.

Platenik was Raducanu’s seventh coach since she won the 2021 US Open. The legendary coach has previously worked with the likes of Daria Kasatkina and Dominika Cibulkova in the WTA. Raducanu is expected to find a replacement after the Miami Open.

I think this week was a great eye opener to when I am happy and expressive and myself and I think having people that I have known for a very long time since before the US Open and just those familiar faces, I think is the most valuable thing for this week at least.
