Emma Raducanu is in Romania competing at the Winners Open. She has scheduled a quarterfinal match against Maja Chwalinska after knocking out Greet Minnen and Kaja Juvan in straight sets.

Prior to the Winners Open, she played the Australian Open, where she failed to go past Anastasia Potapova in the second round, losing in straight sets. A few days after her exit, Raducanu announced that she had ended her coaching partnership with Francisco Roig, who was also a part of Rafael Nadal‘s entourage from 2005 until 2012.

Ever since Raducanu won the 2021 US Open title, she had struggled to find a coach she would want to work with for a long time. Former World No.1 Kim Clijsters has now questioned Raducanu for her constant chopping and changes of coaches.

To me, I’m curious when I hear those kind of headlines, who is making those decisions? Is she doing it? Is it an agent? Is it a parent? There’s a lot of things that I’m curious about in that situation. Who is making these decisions for her? Who pushes the panic button so quickly?

Raducanu added Roig to her team back in August last year. And because of her Australian Open disappointment, many had expected the Brit to part ways with Roig because of her coaching history.

Because she’s had some really good coaches that she’s worked with in the past, and coaches that are like what I’ve mentioned earlier, who want to take their time, who know that it takes time to build and make changes to a technic and to a tactical gameplan. Like, it takes time to work on that.

In a press conference at the Winners Open, Raducanu was asked whether she is thinking of hiring two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep. The former World No.10 said Halep has “better things” to do than be back on the tour as a coach. She also revealed that she had not thought about her next step and was focusing on what had been working well for her in the tournament.

Emma Raducanu did something for the first time in her career. In her second-round match against Kaja Juvan in the ongoing Transylvania Open, she made a strong comeback after being down 0-5, eventually reeling off 11 back-to-back games to knock out Juvan 7-5, 6-1.

It was not easy being 0-5 down and finding some strength to turn the first set around. I am really happy because it’s not something that I have done before. Also, even though I was 5-0 down, I felt like at least I was playing on my terms, so that for me is progress, and I know that if I want to play this way, it’s not going to be smooth sailing all the time.

Emma Raducanu said at the press conference

Raducanu is aiming to reach her first final since her historic triumph at the 2021 US Open. The best she has produced since that Major win was at the Miami Open last year, when she won four consecutive matches in a single tournament (losing in the quarterfinals to eventual runner-up Jessica Pegula).

Before the Australian Open this year, she featured in the Hobart International, where Taylah Preston knocked her out in the quarterfinals. Raducanu ended her 2025 season after losing to Zhu Lin in her opening round of the Ningbo Open.

Last year, she did not feature in the Winners Up and instead played at the Singapore Tennis Open following her third-round defeat to six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek at the Australian Open.
