Emma Raducanu is not enjoying the year she expected as injuries once again ruined her plans. The 21-year-old, however, is valuing her health more than her tennis results.
Raducanu signed up for several tournaments on the Asian swing but only played the Korea Open where, in the quarterfinals against Daria Kasatkina, she injured her foot and withdrew from the match after the first set.
She is yet to make her comeback, but in an interview, she expressed her confidence in playing good tennis the next year after completely recovering from the injury. Raducanu said she has learned her lessons and won’t be rushing herself to get back on tennis courts.
Raducanu was heartbroken after her poor US Open result. She wanted to make a deep run in the tournament she won in 2021. As she lost in the first round, she decided to play more tournaments, for she blamed herself for skipping tournaments.
Raducanu wasn’t given the wild cards for the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open, so she decided not to play both tournaments and was criticized for this.
Emma Raducanu admits to not focusing on tennis while dealing with injuries
Last year as well, injuries and surgeries forced Emma Raducanu to stay on the sidelines, as a consequence of which, the former World No. 10 slipped down outside of the top 200 in the rankings. But she climbed back to the top 100, thanks to her campaigns on the grass swing. During that aforementioned interview, Raducanu also revealed how remaining on the sidelines impacted her.
Raducanu currently stands in the 58th spot in the World rankings. She is 20-13 on the season and is yet to win her first title since her 2021 US Open victory. The Brit recently withdrew from the Hong Kong Open.
