2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu has faced a challenging period recently. Since her maiden Grand Slam victory in Flushing Meadows three years ago, the British player has struggled with form and recurring injuries.

However, with key adjustments on the court and changes to her coaching staff, her results have shown improvement. With strong performances in the Billie Jean King Cup, Raducanu hopes to secure a major title for Great Britain and build momentum for the 2025 season.

I think traditionally you’d probably have a bit of a break and take a holiday or something. But I feel like I have had four, five weeks off tennis, and I don’t really need any more time off. If anything, I’m excited and just itchy to get on the practice court, and of course seeing some of my performances this week, it just incentivizes me to do more work.

Raducanu is set to lead Great Britain in the Billie Jean King Cup semifinals against Slovakia. The 22-year-old has already impressed in Malaga, winning both her singles matches against Germany’s Jule Niemeier and Canada’s Rebecca Marino.

My assessment is, I think sometimes I need reminding. I’m top 60 in the world and I have played less than 15 events, which is pretty unheard of, in a way.I have to pat myself on the back for that. I know I’m a dangerous player. I know no one wants to pull my name in the draw. I take pride in that, and I’m looking forward to hopefully staying on court longer next year.

After the tournament concludes, Raducanu will turn her attention to the new season at the ASB Classic in Auckland on December 30th.

Laura Robson has praised Emma Raducanu’s decision to work with the fitness trainer Yutaka Nakamura. Nakamura is highly experienced, having previously worked with top players like Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka. Reports suggest that the 2021 US Open champion is in discussions to finalize a deal with him.

Raducanu is focused on improving her fitness and is ready to commit to making physical gains. She has not competed since injuring her foot at the Korea Open in September. However, she has recovered enough to join Great Britain’s team for the Billie Jean King Cup in Spain this week.

I know him pretty well from when he was working with Sharapova and when I used to train in Florida. He was primarily based at the IMG Academy there, so he’s worked with people like golfer Nelly Korda, and just has a really long history of being world class. He’s such a nice guy to get along with as well, which is important for when you’re on the road so many weeks of the year.

Laura Robson said on Sky Sports Tennis

The 22-year-old has faced a tough year with injuries. Last year, Raducanu underwent surgeries on her wrists and ankle. Despite her efforts, injuries have continued to disrupt the final months of her season.

Raducanu’s decision to bring in an experienced fitness trainer reflects her determination to overcome these challenges. If she secures Nakamura, it could be a key step in addressing the injury issues that have affected her young career.
