British pro Emma Raducanu has been on the waitlist for a wildcard entry into the French Open. After her 2021 US Open win, the youngster fell out of form due to recurring injuries and has since not been able to tune into her best form.

She returned on tour at the start of 2024 and has been on an improved run so far. Raducanu is currently playing in many tournaments under protected rankings and is desperately in need of a few deep runs.

With the French Open wildcard entry lists announced, fans were disappointed to not see Raducanu’s name on the list. She was fourth on the list and needed three women to withdraw to make it to the main draw or else she had to play in the qualifiers

Recent reports reveal that the Brit has withdrawn from the French Open qualifying round. This news has shocked fans, who speculate that the player might have received a direct entry into the main draw. If not, tennis enthusiasts await an official statement from the Brit.

On the official front, right now, she hopes that the few women in the main draw pull out, so she gets a chance to enter directly. Jessica Pegula is one of the few players, who is more likely to withdraw from Roland Garros and likewise, there are a few on the list to probably pull out.

Emma Raducanu hits out at the gender pay gap as she claims that women’s tennis is technically better to watch than men

Raducanu recently rallied behind Iga Swiatek in saying that women’s tennis is also interesting to watch. It started with Aryna Sabalenka implying men’s tennis is more interesting.

While supporting the women for their tennis, the Brit also spoke about the pay gap and found it unfair that the men get more rewards than the women.

A lot of women’s players are technically better. They rely on speed, agility, and brain rather than brute strength. The prize money gap is huge on the ATP tour, which I don’t necessarily think is fair, but equally playing three sets in the slams is a lot better than the men’s five, which is brutal.
Emma Raducanu said in an interview with the Times

Many tournaments have equal pay, but a few smaller ones are yet to follow. Nevertheless, if the latest news is true, the fans will miss the Brit at the French Open, but if things flow her way, then Raducanu may return in the main draw and play Roland Garros.
