Emma Raducanu earned a stunning run at the Miami Open, reaching the quarter-finals but failed to progress further than that. The British struggled with the conditions and humidity of the court and, in the second set, needed a doctor’s check-up before continuing. She has now opened up about her health struggles during the match against Jessica Pegula in Miami.
Raducanu arrived in Miami following a first-round exit in Indian Wells. She did well to bounce back in time in Florida, winning her opening match before stunning eighth seed Emma Navarro in the second round and then triumphing over Amanda Anisimova, who had ended Mirra Andreeva’s winning streak.
The British star took on Pegula and lost the first set 4-6. Nonetheless, Raducanu hit back in the second round and responded well with a 5-2 lead before Pegula reduced the deficit to 5-4. Raducanu was noticeably struggling on the court and, at the end of the ninth game, called the doctor, explaining she felt dizzy.
The World No.60 was attended to and was checked by the doctor. She resumed the match and ended up winning the second set in a tiebreak, forcing the match into a decider. But she was able to keep up with the momentum, allowing Pegula to use her experience and claim the 6-4, 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 victory. After the match, Raducanu explained why she requested a doctor.
I just felt really dizzy. I felt faint. I don’t know; it was very humid out there, and we had a long wait, so maybe it was just an accumulation, and just physical points as well, and there were long rallies and heavy conditions. But yeah, I don’t know how I kind of regrouped in that second set, but in the third, I definitely struggled a little bit.

Pegula will go on to face wildcard Alexandra Eala in the semi-final of the Miami Open. Eala has been in superb form at the tournament and has ousted three Grand Slam champions, including Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek.
Emma Raducanu says she will re-evaluate her performance in Miami after quarter-finals exit
Emma Raducanu’s run at the Miami Open now gives her enough confidence to go into the European clay season. The British star is set to climb to World No.48 in the updated WTA rankings after her exploits in Florida. During the aforementioned press conference, she revealed what will be her new approach after leaving the Miami Open.

I think I need to just take a break and kind of re-evaluate what I’m doing. This week was good but I need to just figure things out and then I’ll make a plan from there.

Raducanu is next likely to be on the court when Great Britain takes on the Netherlands in the Billie Jean King Cup. The matches will act as a proper recovery for the European clay season, during which she missed most of the events last year.
British legend hails “impressive” Emma Raducanu for Miami Open run
Emma Raducanu didn’t get past the quarter-finals of the Miami Open but her performance at the tournament was a testament to how much talent she has. She won four consecutive matches in the tournament for the first time since her 2021 US Open. British legend Tim Henman, who has been a big supporter of Raducanu, revealed that she will take some positives from Miami.

But there’s no doubt Raducanu will take so many positives from this run in Miami. When you see Raducanu playing at this level, the tennis has always been there, but the movement in and out of the corners when she’s been on defence, it’s been so impressive.

Raducanu’s best performance at the Miami Open was against Emma Navarro. Despite the British star being less favorite to win, she outplayed the American, forcing her into many errors and withstanding her powerful forehands.
