Emma Raducanu won’t feature at the Cincinnati Open after she failed to gain direct entry into the main draw of the Masters 1000 event. The British star was overlooked for a wildcard by the organizers, instead awarding them to former Grand Slam champions Carolina Wozniacki and Bianca Andreescu.

Raducanu has been in good form since the grass season and has climbed her way back into the Top 100. She reached the quarterfinals of the Eastbourne International and got to the fourth round of Wimbledon. The 21-year-old decided to skip the Paris Olympics to focus on her health. She took part in the Citi Open in Washington DC, where she reached the quarterfinals and lost to eventual champion Paula Badosa.

Those results have seen her climb to World No. 69 in the WTA rankings. But that was not good enough to see her make the Cincinnati main draw. Only the top 43 players in the WTA rankings gain direct entry into the Cincinnati Open. While eight players come through the qualifying rounds, an additional four players will be awarded wildcards.

Failing to make it into the main draw there means she will not feature at the event, as the British star has opted out of taking part in qualifying rounds. She will, however, be able to make the cut for the US Open.

Wozniacki and Andreescu are the two top players who have been handed wildcards for the Cincinnati event which kickstarts on August 11. The two other players to get wildcards are American youngsters Peyton Stearns and Caroline Dolehide, who reached her maiden WTA semifinals at the Washington Open last week.

The British star will not be competing at the Canadian Open which began on Monday (August 5) after failing to earn a wildcard for the Masters 1000 event. However, she is excited at her transformation and a guaranteed spot in the US Open main draw.

I started the grass season ranked outside of 200 and finished it in the top 100. For me that was relatively successful. It guaranteed me a spot hopefully in the main draw of the US [Open]. That was a big thing for me. I wanted to make sure I got into the Slams. Yeah, I’m very pleased to be in the place that I am, competing, healthy, just enjoying my tennis.
