The Dallas Cowboys acquired their former running back Ezekiel Elliott with high hopes this season, despite his disastrous run with the New England Patriots. However, the season is going in an entirely different direction with a 3-5 record and an inefficient passing game. It has further been compromised after the team imposed a one-game demotion on him.

ESPN’s Todd Archer reported that Elliott did not accompany his team on the flight to Atlanta ahead of the Week 9 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The reason behind his absence is not an injury but “disciplinary reasons” as Archer quoted.

While many predicted Zeke’s potential exit from the team, sports analyst Emmanuel Acho reacted in a different way. Highlighting his nine-year career playing in the NFL, Acho expressed disgust over the veteran running back being benched over disciplinary reasons.

9 year NFL vet still getting disciplinary suspensions? Smh.

Running back Dalvin Cook from the Cowboys’ practice squad has been moved to the starting team to replace Zeke in the upcoming match. The team also didn’t elaborate on Elliot’s absence any further than announcing that he would not be traveling with the team to Atlanta for the road game.

Ezekiel Elliott aside, Dak Prescott acknowledges Cowboys’ offensive struggles

Whether with or without Zeke, the Cowboys’ running game hasn’t made any contributions to the team. If anything, this failure has overburdened quarterback Dak Prescott, prompting him to throw more which often turns into costly interceptions for the team.

Ahead of the Week 9 game, the three-time Pro Bowler addressed his team’s offensive struggle with a hitting realization that he has not been running like last season– which made him the MVP frontrunner at some point of the season.

For sure, I mean, just off the top of my head, I know I haven’t been running. Whether it’s been the scrambles or not, a couple of play calls that could potentially be that way, just haven’t had the read. Hell, I did it one time and it wasn’t the read so, in that sense, it just happens from within the pocket [during] in the game.

The team has paired Cook with Rico Dowdle with the hope from them to enhance the struggling run game, ranked at the very bottom of the league with a bizarre 74.1 rushing yards per game average.
