Emmanuel Acho doesn’t think it’s crazy for Cowboys to draft a quarterback as Dak Prescott’s successor citing Noah’s Ark’s example
Acho claimed the Cowboys should learn from the Packers and the Chiefs about drafting a quarterback early.

Emmanuel Acho wants the Cowboys to draft a quarterback before Dak Prescott‘s contract expires. Many continue to question if Prescott has the potential to lead the Cowboys to Super Bowl glory. However, Acho had something more pressing for the Cowboys to address.
Acho spoke about the Cowboys during Wednesday’s segment of FS1’s The Speak. He does not want the Cowboys to draft Prescott’s replacement. However, an assurance is definitely needed if something were to happen to the 30-year-old. As such, they wouldn’t have to go fishing for the middle of the season.
I don't think it's crazy to draft a quarterback if you have Dak Prescott. The smartest thing the Cowboys could do is draft a quarterback because Noah didn't wait until it started raining to build an Arc.Emmanuel Acho via The Speak
On the other hand, the retired NFL player turned analyst reminded his co-hosts LeSean McCoy, Joy Taylor, and James Jones, of the history. That’s because Jerry Jones has rarely drafted a quarterback in the past 20 years when the starting QB is still playing.
The last time the Cowboys broke that circle was back in 2001 for Quincy Carter from the Georgia Bulldogs, a year after Troy Aikman retired. Since then, only Tony Romo, an undrafted free agent, and Dak Prescott have stuck around the longest in Arlington.
However, Prescott’s time with the Cowboys has one more year, and then he will become a free agent unless Jones decides to break the bank and make the three-time Pro Bowler the highest-paid player in the NFL. Yet Jones isn’t too keen on making a move just yet and wants Prescott to see through his contract.
Emmanuel Acho warned the Cowboys to draft a quarterback behind Dak Prescott until it’s too late
Mina Kimes previously stated that Jones’ actions after announcing to go ‘all-in’ don’t make sense. On one hand, the Cowboys want the Super Bowl; on the other, they are parting ways with valuable players who, for so many years, kept the team competitive. On top of that, there’s no sign of adding a like-for-like replacement.
Even if Jones sticks with Prescott, he will have fewer weapons to work with, which could affect his performance. So, keeping that in mind, the Cowboys should make the move and draft a quarterback in 2024. To prove his point, Emmanuel Acho provided teams that successfully used the method of drafting QBs early.
Think about the Chiefs; you have Alex Smith, and you draft Pat Mahomes. Think about the Packers. Twice, you had Brett Favre; you drafted Aaron Rodgers. You have Aaron Rodgers; you draft Jordan Love. You don't wait till you need something to go get something. It's easier to get a job while you have one. The smartest thing the Cowboys can do is draft a quarterback.Emmanuel Acho via The Speak
It paid dividends for both teams. While the Chiefs won three Super Bowls after drafting Patrick Mahomes, Rodgers delivered a ring to the Packers in 2011.
There’s always an exception, though. The San Francisco 49ers drafted Trey Lance when Jimmy Garaoppolo was there, eventually cutting ties with both. Lance then landed in Dallas and is now the backup to Prescott.
Drafting a quarterback idea was first highlighted by Acho’s FOX colleague Colin Cowherd on The Herd. He proposed that the Cowboys try to draft either Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr. According to draft specialist Mel Kiper, talents like Nix and Penix Jr. might not get selected in the first round. As such, the Cowboys have the chance to recruit a quarterback in the first round.
It’s unclear what Jerry Jones is skimming at this point. Selecting a quarterback would not shock anyone; rather, it would signal his intent about keeping Prescott. Besides the former Mississippi man, the Cowboys will also have to deal with CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons, as they are due an extension in 2025.
