The 2024 NFL first-overall pick, Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears, hasn’t been up to the mark with an underwhelming start to the regular season. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner was expected to transition the Bears into a postseason team, which he hasn’t shown promise as of now.

Former linebacker and NFL Analyst Emmanuel Acho has called out Williams for his performance in the first three games of the season. Acho believes that although he is not shocked to see Williams struggling, he wasn’t expecting him to struggle so much.

Acho noted that Williams was the best in college playing for the University of Southern California Trojans for two years.

Caleb, if you were better coming out of college than every other rookie, then I need you to be better in the NFL than every other rookie. You can’t be better than Bo Nix in college, but then get to the NFL and be worse. You can’t be better than Jayden Daniels in college, but then get to the NFL and be worse

Emmanuel Acho said

Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels have also struggled to get that rhythm going but they look far better than Williams right now. Nix won his first game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday with some immaculate plays, far better than the dropbacks in earlier games.

Daniels has been impressive in rebuilding so far as predicted by some. Williams was adjudged better than both of them in college, but when it comes to the NFL, he hasn’t been that great.

So yes, rookies should be rookies, but if you were better than all them, then I need you to be better than all them.

Caleb Williams is lackluster after Week 3 in NFL

After a Game 1 victory against the Tennessee Titans, the Bears have lost two straight games to the Houston Texans and the Indianapolis Colts. The Bears are currently 4th in the NFC North with a 1-2 record to name. Although the Bears won the first game, there wasn’t much of a Williams-influence helping them do that.

The last game against the Colts was his best performance to date. He threw 52 passes, completing 33 for 363 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Sacks remain a huge issue for the young 22-year-old from Washington DC. He turned it over three times and saw his yardage stats inflated by some unwanted issues in the first half and second half.

Overall, he has a completion rate of 59.3% for 630 yards with four interceptions and 13 sacks. Nevertheless, Williams is also the first rookie to throw a TD this season, highlighting how hard it has been for the rookie class this year.
