The Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels sustained a drastic elbow injury in Sunday’s fixture against the Seattle Seahawks. The Commanders were down 38-7 with under eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, and the game was already out of reach when Daniels was brought down for a sack at the Seahawks’ 4-yard line by linebacker Drake Thomas.
Daniels’ teammates quickly surrounded him and took a knee in a somber moment at Northwest Stadium. The star quarterback walked off the field with his own power, his arm secured in an air cast, as a hush fell over the stadium. Head coach Dan Quinn described it as a “left elbow injury” but had no further updates immediately after the game.
The fans were not happy to see one of their favorites with his arm bent the other way, and definitely not about the fact that he was out on the field at garbage time with no chance to win the game. The media critics also came out guns blazing at Quinn for his decision.
What a disaster for Jayden Daniels and the Commanders! This is the kind of preventable, heartbreaking injury, that could ruin a career. Personally, I was looking forward to Jaxson Dart owning Daniels for years to come. 🙏 Praying! 🙏 pic.twitter.com/qKOj9djV78

Emmanuel Acho was also not happy with the Washington Commanders.
I don’t like throwing out the word negligent often, but what the Washington Commanders have done with Jayden Daniels this season has been grossly irresponsible.

The Commanders may have lost one of the NFL’s most dynamic young quarterbacks for the remainder of the season. The thought of benching Daniels in case he might get injured didn’t pass through Quinn’s mind while admitting his shock and disbelief that this has happened.
Yeah, not in that space. Obviously, in hindsight, you don’t want to think that way where an injury could take place. Obviously, we were more conservative in that spot to run and hand off and not have reads to go. But just the end result, obviously I’m bummed.
Dan Quinn said in the post-game conference
Leaving Daniels in the game that late seemed unnecessary, though Quinn hinted that the quarterback may have insisted on finishing the contest himself.
Jayden Daniels injury draws comparisons with Robert Griffin III
Robert Griffin III was among those who weighed in on Jayden Daniels’ injury, drawing from his own painful experience in a similar situation. Griffin’s once-promising career in Washington was derailed by injuries, most notably an ACL tear in his right knee during a 2013 Wild Card playoff game in his rookie season.

Just watched Jayden Daniels get hurt. All I know is the emotion of watching him in the game, with seven minutes left, down 38-7. My first thought is: Why is he still in the game?

Meanwhile, social media was amok with eerie comparisons of Daniels’ injury on Sunday night and Robert Griffin’s one from years ago. It is not in the injuries themselves, but in the circumstances surrounding them. Both occurred against the Seahawks, at Washington’s home stadium, and near the 5-yard line.

Although Daniels’s mother dismissed comparisons between her son and Griffin’s careers, parallels are hard to ignore given Daniels’s injury-plagued second season in the NFL.
However, there was a stark difference as well. Daniels entered Week 9’s game fully healthy, while Griffin had been nursing an LCL strain in the same knee a month before his ACL tear. Griffin later admitted he “probably did put [himself] at more risk by being out there.”
