In the Sunday Night Football game against the New Orleans, Bradley Bozeman showed that he would not tolerate anyone deliberately trying to injure quarterback Justin Herbert. He didn’t think twice before jumping on Saints defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd, who made a cheap move at the quarterback.

The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback isn’t very lucky when it comes to injuries, and he recently sustained an ankle sprain in Week 3. That’s why, when Shepherd purposely went after Herbert by twisting his right ankle and pulled him down in the second quarter, the Chargers’ center pushed the lineman off Herbert and shoved him into the ground.

The situation between Shepherd and Bozeman escalated to such a degree that an NFL official was compelled to step in and separate them. Just like the entire Los Angeles fanbase, ESPN analyst Emmanuel Acho found the dirty play by the Saints lineman absolutely unacceptable, calling it a “trash.”

This play was dirty as hell, just blatantly trying to injure Justin Herbert. No place in the game for this. Absolute trash. Trash!

Fortunately, the Chargers’ signal-caller didn’t sustain any injury as his teammate Bozeman quickly reacted by pushing Sheperd off him. However, the NFL viewed the whole incident quite differently, and penalized Bozeman instead of taking any action against the dirty play by the Saints’ defensive tackle.

Despite the officials focusing only on the physical altercation between Shepherd and Bozeman, the latter didn’t regret what he did at the moment. Seeing his quarterback fall victim to foul play despite the officials watching, Bozeman had to step it without caring about the repercussions.

It was probably one of the dirtier plays I’ve ever seen. You protect your quarterback no matter what. And I think any of our offensive linemen that was in my position would’ve done the same thing.

Following the 26-8 victory against the Saints, Bozeman was praised and celebrated by the Chargers locker room for making the right call of protecting the signal-caller. Head coach Jim Harbaugh and his teammates honored him with the game ball as well.

Though Bozeman would probably be fined for the unnecessary roughness penalty, fans are demanding the NFL to suspend Shepherd.
