Cowboys nation is in mourning after the death of Hall of Fame defensive lineman Larry Allen. Emmitt Smith became very emotional after his daughter broke the news to her on Monday night.
Allen was enjoying a vacation with his family in Mexico when the tragedy struck. Smith, who spent the better of a decade with the 52-year-old, had a hard time believing that his friend was truly no more.
I’m sitting on my back patio reflecting on one of the best offensive linemen I’ve ever played with, Larry Allen. I’m at a loss of words right now.Emmitt Smith said with a choking voice in his social media post
Allen, a second-round draft pick, spent all but two years in Dallas blocking for Smith. They struck up a close relationship. Smith recalled Allen, as being a very likable individual.
Such a good dude. It just breaks my heart.Emmitt Smith said
He contemplated that death can happen at any given moment. So it’s better to make the best of every moment and refrain from taking life for granted.

Larry Allen and Emmitt Smith were close on and off the field
Allen went on to become an 11-time Pro Bowler and a 6-time All-Pro offensive lineman and bagged 1 Super Bowl. Besides being one of the best in his craft, Allen remained a humble man of the field.
The one thing about Larry Allen I know [is] he had a big heart, and he lived life to the fullest. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. My heart is just broken.Emmitt Smith said
Smith wasn’t the only Allen’s teammate who was devastated by the news. Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman also gave his tribute.
Just received the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved teammate Larry Allen. He was a HOF offensive lineman that dominated opponents regardless of the position played. Off the field, he was a gentle giant that loved his family. Rest in Peace LA.Troy Aikman via X
