In Short
  • David Miller's late-game blunder led to Delhi Capitals' narrow one-run defeat against Gujarat Titans.
  • Miller was seen emotional and alone in the dressing room after the loss, reflecting on his missed opportunity.
  • A 13-year-old tweet from Jofra Archer resurfaced, drawing parallels to Miller's past critical moments in cricket.

It was an agonizing night for Delhi Capitals’ batter David Miller, after he failed to take his team over the line in a high-octane chase against the Gujarat Titans, due to a blunder. The South African batter, following DC’s one-run defeat, was recorded sitting alone in the dressing room.

DC’s unbeaten run in IPL 2026 came to an end after the team lost to GT at home. The visitors, after being put to bat first, raced to 210/4, courtesy knocks from captain Shubman Gill (70 off 45), Jos Buttler (52 off 27), and Washington Sundar (55 off 32). For DC, Mukesh Kumar picked up two wickets. Delhi’s chase began with openers Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul putting up an impressive 76-run stand off 49 balls.

While KL Rahul finished with 92 runs off 52 balls, the other Delhi batters failed to perform. Rashid Khan tore through the DC middle-order, leaving them at 166/6 in the 17th over. The onus fell upon David Miller to take his team over the line. He had initially come out to bat in the 10th over, but retired hurt due to a finger injury. He walked out to bat again and took charge with 36 runs needed off two overs.

He changed gears, piling up 23 runs with Vipraj Nigam off Mohammed Siraj‘s 19th over. With just 2 runs required off the last two balls, Miller, however, refused to take an easy single off the penultimate ball to tie the game, hoping to finish the game himself.

Off the final ball, Prasidh Krishna cleverly bowled a slower bouncer, which the left-hander missed. In a desperate attempt to steal a bye, Miller and Kuldeep Yadav ran, but the latter was run out from a direct hit, which handed GT the game by a run.

David Miller was dejected and visibly emotional after the loss, which many felt could have been avoided. A video released by Delhi Capitals showed the 36-year-old sitting alone in the dressing room, before being consoled by head coach Hemang Badani. Heartbroken, Miller was seen in tears and held his hand in his hands. The video carried a caption, “Backing our Tiger, Always”, in a show of support by the franchise.

Although fans and social media users felt the South African should have opted for the secure single, he appeared to rely on his instinct. Furthermore, fans drew parallels to the 2024 T20 World Cup final, where David Miller was dismissed at a critical time against India.

Jofra Archer’s 13-year-old tweet about David Miller resurfaces after DC star’s blunder

Despite David Miller’s heartbreak after the Delhi Capitals’ narrow one-run defeat to the Gujarat Titans, attention has shifted to a 13-year-old tweet by Jofra Archer. Archer’s tweets, known for their popularity, often resurface when major events occur in the cricketing world.

Miller found himself at the center of criticism after a lapse in judgment led to DC’s first defeat of the season. While he did take his team close to the target with a blistering 41-run innings, the South African batter faltered in the end. Refusing to take a single, which would have tied scores at 210, resulted in his team failing to win, as he swung and missed the final ball and could not sneak a bye as well.

Following the defeat, an old tweet of Englishman Jofra Archer resurfaced on social media, which was about the 36-year-old batter. Archer had tweeted, “Miller mad? Cricket at 11:30”, back in 2013. It was a reference to an ODI between South Africa and Pakistan at Gqeberha. Chasing down a 263-run target, Miller had similarly failed to take his team over the line with six runs required off the final ball.

David Miller has, however, been in great form in the shortest format of the game since the 2026 T20 World Cup. During the tournament, he had scored an impressive 174 runs in six innings at an average of 58 and a strike-rate of 155.36.
