“Without them, I would not be here,” Emotional Donna Vekic survives Lulu Sun scare to advance to Wimbledon semifinals
Vekic is one step closer to her maiden Grand Slam title having advanced to the semifinals at SW19.

Donna Vekic survived a major scare against qualifier Lulu Sun at the Wimbledon Championships. The Croatian registered a hard-fought win to become a Grand Slam semifinalist for the first time in her career
Vekic caused an upset when she beat Paula Badosa in the fourth round, with the reward being a clash with Sun. The New Zealander, who is having a dream season of her own, started strong by winning the first set and taking the lead in the contest.
She was then cruising through the second set when Vekic got a crucial break. She built on it to take the match into the third set, where the Croatian powered through to win 7-5, 6-4, 6-1. She later credited her team and everyone in her boss for believing in her.

In her third Grand Slam quarterfinal and first at Wimbledon, Vekic dug deep to ensure she gets one step closer to a maiden Major quarterfinal.

Donna Vekic speaks about the belief she had after being a set down
Donna Vekic continues to impress at Wimbledon. She had worked hard to reach the quarterfinals, where she had to fight from a set down to ensure she didn’t exit the tournament.
After the win against Lulu Sun, she was extremely emotional in her on-court interview and was at a loss for words. She credited her opponent and also gave an insight into how she was feeling during the match.

Vekic will now take on either Jasmine Paolini or Emma Navarro. Paolini has had a season to remember, with a maiden Grand Slam final appearance at Roland Garros and a WTA 1000 title in Dubai. Navarro has also had a strong year, marked by over 30 wins across tournaments so far.
