Andy Murray was set to retire at this year’s Wimbledon or the Paris Olympics but doubts loomed over his participation in the former event because of a back problem. In his quest to feature in his last Wimbledon, Murray underwent back surgery on Saturday but unfortunately, he reportedly withdrew from it. A few days ago, his brother Jamie Murray talked about the 37-year-old’s situation.
Murray played in his last Queen’s Club Championships. In the first round, he went past Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in three sets before retiring mid-match during his second-round match against Jordan Thompson. Murray was trailing 4-1 when he decided to give the walkover to the Aussie. Murray’s brother Jamie, who is also working as tournament director at Queen’s and with whom Murray was set to play doubles in Wimbledon, talked about the possibility of Murray not playing in his career’s last two tournaments.

He saw a specialist last night and is trying to decide what to do. I don't think it's right for me to personally interfere in this matter, it's up to him, but I think he has some decisions to make. It's obviously very disappointing for him, because this could have been his last Queen's, his last Wimbledon, and his last Olympics, and it's possible that it won't happen. I think he’s got to make a few decisions and see where he goes from there.Jamie Murray told BBC Two
Murray also missed almost two months of tennis after injuring his ankle in the Miami Open, and he is 6-12 on the season. The match against Popyrin was also the three-time Grand Slam champion’s 1000th match of his career.
Andy Murray ruled out of his possible last Wimbledon Championships
As per a report by The Telegraph, Andy Murray has been ruled out of Wimbledon. The surgery on his spinal cyst will take six weeks to recover, which also raises doubts about his Olympic participation.

The Wimbledon Championships starts on July 1, while the tennis matches at the Paris Olympics get underway on July 27. If he doesn’t recover before the prestigious event in Paris as well, he may plan to bid farewell at the US Open, which starts in August.
Murray won Wimbledon in 2012 and 2016 and also won the 2012 US Open. Apart from winning the three major titles, he has also won 14 ATP Masters 1000 titles. He is a two-time Olympic champion, having won the gold medals in singles in 2012 and 2016.
