Emotional JJ Redick makes stunning admission about Los Angeles after revisiting burnt down home: “Love to be Laker coach for 15 years”

JJ Redick and LeBron James

JJ Redick has had a major influence on the Los Angeles Lakers since taking over in 2024. Making the most of guys like Austin Reaves’ potential has been one of his greatest achievements. Not only that, but his handling of the star duo of LeBron James and Luka Doncic has also been noteworthy. The squad now stands fourth in the Western Conference with a 45–29 record under his leadership.

Some have begun to wonder if he could depart for another chance given his increasing prominence. But Redick was pretty clear about where he stood on the issue. He recently sat down with the Los Angeles Times as he revisited the Palisades to see his burnt-down home. The Lakers HC spoke about various issues regarding Los Angeles in general and was also emotional about it. In addition, he made a bold confession when it came to the Lakers.

I’m not moving my kids again…We’re in it for the long haul. I would love to be the Lakers’ coach for the next 15 to 20 years. If I’m not the Lakers coach, I’m in it for the long haul in L.A.

These remarks calm Lakers supporters because few anticipated his influence on the team given his lack of expertise in the role. That’s not to claim Redick’s influence was unexpected. From the beginning, Austin Reaves had nothing but praise for him. Reaves went as far to calling him a ‘basketball genius’ at the start of the 2024-25 NBA season.

It’s safe to say that Reaves is reaping the rewards under the coaching of Redick. The Lakers look like a proper threat under Redick this season. With just a few games to go, Redick and Co. are aiming for a top-seed finish this season.

JJ Redick reportedly held ‘special’ meeting between Lakers’ star trio before Grizzlies game

The Los Angeles Lakers recently took on the Memphis Grizzlies away from home and won excitingly. All of the Lakers’ forwards were on fire at the FedEx Forum. However, before the game, Lakers HC reportedly conducted a meeting between his 3 stars, LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Austin Reaves. This was according to NBA insider Jovan Buha of The Athletic

We challenged all three of them when we get to their three-man actions to play with a little more force and a little more thrust and a little more creativity.

Reaves offered further information and analysis on the meeting. He claimed that the meeting was to ‘ build chemistry’ between the three stars. The Lakers looked quite strong against the Grizzlies, thus it appeared that the meeting was successful. Throughout the whole game, the offense was in full swing, which contributed to their decisive win.

LeBron James had huge praise for his Lakers HC JJ Redick on a recent podcast show

A large portion of LeBron James‘ success this season may be attributed to head coach JJ Redick. The new HC has been able to keep the veteran fresh while still enabling him to dominate by figuring out how to get the most out of him since taking over. James knows this and made his views clear on Redick when he recently appeared on the Pat McAfee podcast show.

He bleeds the game and he breathes the game of basketball every single day…He’s one of those guys, kind of just like me. If we lose a game or we didn’t play up to par, there’s no such thing as sleeping at night. There’s no such thing as sleeping until the next game. …He’s a dickhead. And I love it.

Aside from this, the Lakers’ next opponent is the No. 2 seed in the Western playoffs, the Houston Rockets. The Lakers’ ability to compete with the other top Western teams would be demonstrated if they were to defeat Houston. They would also have an opportunity to pass the Rockets for the No. 2 seed if they were to win.
