As the Philadelphia Eagles stopped a dynasty, Saquon Barkley was in the middle of it all. The running back, drafted by the New York Giants, joined the Eagles in the 2024 offseason and led them to their second-ever Super Bowl title.

Amid the celebrations, Barkley, who was on air with immense joy, took his time to embrace Howie Roseman. The former Giants player hugged Roseman multiple times for bringing him to Philly and making him part of a Super Bowl.

As Jeremy Fowler recounted, the Eagles have been on the hunt for Saquon Barkley since the brutal loss in Super Bowl LVII. Howie Roseman, Exec VP and GM of the Eagles, and a few others huddled in a meeting in 2023 and brainstormed about the hires that could bring them glory. However, the Giants put a franchise tag on him, squashing their plans.

In 2024, Barkley finally became available, and Roseman recognized the exceptional talent of the running back. Straying from the team’s usual pricing strategies, he spared no expense to bring him on board. The Sunday night victory over the Kansas City Chiefs became a defining moment, as millions of viewers witnessed one of the most brilliantly assembled rosters—and the mastermind behind it—basking in his triumph.

Saquon Barkley capped off birthday night with a ring and a record

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley etched his name into NFL history during Super Bowl LIX, surpassing Terrell Davis for the most rushing yards in a single season, including the playoffs. Along with Cooper DeJean, Barkley became the 11th player to win a Super Bowl on his birthday as well.

Barkley entered the game needing just 30 yards to break the long-standing record of 2,476 rushing yards, set by Davis in 1998. The milestone moment came just before halftime when Barkley powered through for a two-yard run, officially eclipsing the mark that had stood for 26 years.

Before Sunday’s game, only Davis had recorded more rushing yards in a season than Barkley. The Eagles’ star back came into the Super Bowl with 2,447 yards, ranking second in NFL history. By the time the final whistle blew, Barkley had carried the ball 25 times for 57 yards, helping Philadelphia secure a dominant 40-22 victory.

Earlier, he capped off a historic season by becoming just the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season. He finished the year with 2,005 rushing yards, the eighth-highest total ever recorded in a regular season.

Barkley came tantalizingly close to surpassing Eric Dickerson’s long-standing single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards, falling just 101 yards short. However, he opted to rest during the final week of the regular season, prioritizing his health for the Eagles’ playoff push. Everything seems to have worked out well in the end.
