Former World No. 13 Nick Kyrgios is no stranger to heated debates on social media. Currently out of action due to an injury, the Australian mercurial has been working his way to return to the Tour.

Expected to start the season during his home leg, he suffered a setback and withdrew from all events. This included the 2024 Australian Open too. But he still played a part at the Grand Slam as he donned the hat of a commentator bringing out his bromance with Novak Djokovic once again.

The Aussie recently found himself tagged in a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) that had no relation to him. Journalist Jose Morgado brought attention to Argentine young gun Sebastian Baez‘s recent record on the Tour. The 23-year-old has broken into the Top-20 and is currently ranked 19th in the world.

He jumped two places after winning the ATP-250 title in Chile. Up against local lad Alejandro Tabilo, Baez found himself in a tight spot after losing the first set in the title decider. He however responded brilliantly dropping a bagel in the second. He eventually closed out the match winning the final set 6-4.

This meant Baez won two titles in two weeks. He won the ATP-500 Rio Open in the previous week, his biggest career title so far. With six Tour titles from eight finals appearances, the youngster is making a name for himself slowly.

As Morgado pointed Baez now being in the Top-5 of the Race for ATP Finals, an X user tagged Kyrgios asking his opinion on it. The Aussie had just a four-word response to the tweet which many found in bad taste.

Head to head lol
Tweeted Kyrgios.

Fans mock Nick Kyrgios for his response

Kyrgios and Baez have met on the Tour just twice. Both of these meetings took place during the 2022 season. They first met in the opening round of the Indian Wells Masters with Kyrgios winning 6-4, 6-0.

Their next, and so far the last, meeting took place in the second round of the Canadian Masters. The seven-time Tour title winner again won 6-4, 6-4 to take a 2-0 lead against Baez. For many social media users, it was rather disappointing for them to see the former Wimbledon finalist’s response.

Instead of appreciating the youngster, claiming superiority over him owing to their head-to-head record felt salty. They were quick to criticize the Aussie with some strong words against him.

Kyrgios didn’t respond to any more of the comments amid the massive backlash. As for Baez, he remained away from the ugly side of social media, possibly celebrating his fifth clay court title which came in his continent.
