Brazil are far from what they used to be in major international tournaments. From being tournament favorites to quarterfinal exits in back-to-back tournaments, Brazil are only a shadow of what they used to be. In the absence of star man Neymar Jr., it is safe to say that the Selecao have found it extremely difficult to find their form as well as stay afloat.

Following the abysmal result against Uruguay, Brazilian wonderkid Endrick took responsibility for his side’s poor showing. The soon-to-be Real Madrid man vowed to bring Brazil back to its former state of glory and that work for the upcoming FIFA World Cup starts immediately. His earnest admission following the game has turned heads on social media.

Endrick told the press following the match

The 17-year-old was one of the most exciting talents at the competition, but failed to impress audiences. The teenager failed to make a single goal contribution in four appearances for Brazil.

Brazil were undoubtedly, one of the tournament favorites at the 2024 Copa America. The Selecao came extremely close to lifting the title in 2021 and had no intentions of doing the same this time around. However, Uruguay stood firmly between them and the title as they were knocked out on penalties in the quarter final.

Following the exit, Brazil head coach Dorival Junior took full responsibility. The manager has been harshly criticized for his team’s inability to pull of results and lack of goals.

This type of work requires a lot of patience. I know that these weren't the expected results and I take full responsibility for the same.
Dorival Junior said in a press conference after the defeat

The head coach however, was optimistic about the team’s future and that the team has a lot of room to improve. Junior claims that this Brazil rebuild is happening ‘from scratch’ and that it will take more time compared to other teams. Brazil’s biggest rivals, Argentina are in the semifinal and will face Canada on the 9th of July. This is the second consecutive defeat for Brazil against Marcelo Bielsa‘s Uruguay.
