Interim England coach Lee Carsley has made it very clear that Mason Greenwood wasnāt in any kind of consideration as the former started his era for the Three Lions. The former U21s coach stepped up in place of Gareth Southgate, who chose to step down from the England job following their defeat at the hands of Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
Despite an impressive season at Getafe in the preceding year, Carsley wasnāt convinced that the English wunderkind, Mason Greenwood, would be a right fit for the English side. The former Manchester United attacker found himself at the receiving end of some serious flak after he was alleged of domestic violence.
However, ever since his return, first for Getafe and then after joining Marseille, he has been in fine nick. In fact, his recent form was what possibly begged the question of his inclusion into the national team.
Mason wasn't a player we could consider, I'm aware of how he's doing, but he wasn't under consideration.Lee Carsley in the post-match presser of England versus Ireland
England secured a comfortable win against Ireland in their opening fixture of the UEFA Nationās League. Declan Rice opened the scoring for England in the 11th minute. Jack Grealish scored 15 minutes later to make it 2-0. England dominated the game throughout and could have found more goals had it not been for their profligacy later in the game.
Lee Carsley explained why he didn’t want to sing the English national anthem
Lee Carsley drew criticism when he openly confessed that he was not going to sing Englandās national anthem. However, he made it clear that it was not out of disrespect, adding that he had a certain way of seeing it. But by no means did it have to do with him representing Ireland before that he chose to not sing the anthem.
I am thinking about how the opposition are going to set up and our first actions within the game. I fully respect both anthems and understand how much they mean to both countries. It's something I am really respectful of.Lee Carsley in pre-match presser ahead of their game against Ireland
