England go out on a high in the Nations League as Phil Foden shines against Iceland

England go out on a high in the Nations League as Phil Foden shines against Iceland
Jack Grealish continued his impressive form for his country as he shined against Iceland

England avoided a repeat of their round of 16 defeat in Euro 2016 to Iceland here at Wembley. Gareth Southgate went with the usual tactics of stuffing the team with defensive minded players as there were six on the field. It remains to be seen if Southgate can learn from his mistakes against Germany.

Young players were given a chance to shine

Since this was a dead rubber match the young players were given a chance to show their talent. Mason Mount, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish, Tammy Abraham, Jadon Sancho, Ainsley Maitland-Niles were given a chance to shine. Phil Foden was given a chance to play after having been sent home from Iceland when he broke isolation regulations along with Mason Greenwood. He stressed that the manager had shown immense faith and trust in him despite being sent off and now he got a chance to repay the faith.

Foden assisted Declan Rice in the 20th minute as the latter opened the scoring for England. 4 minutes later Harry Kane assisted Mason Mount for his first England goal.  In the second half Birkir Mar Saeversson got sent off after two yellow cards and this gave England a numerical advantage. However they never used this to their advantage for the better part of half an hour. In the 80th minute Phil Foden opened his account for England with an assist from Jadon Sancho and in the 84th minute he scored again with an assist from Harry Winks.

This was enough to see off the match as England went out on a high.
