Departing interim boss Lee Carsley was given the perfect farewell by his players as England put five goals past Ireland. The Nations League clash in Group 2 of League B saw five different players get on the scoresheet for The Three Lions. Following the win, England secured promotion to League A as they topped their group.
After a frustrating first half in which either side failed to make a change on the score line, England were gifted a chance to go ahead with a penalty. Additionally, Liam Scales was sent off for picking up his second yellow of the night. Harry Kane comfortably dispatched his penalty kick to make it 1-0 before Anthony Gordon doubled his team’s lead two minutes later.
Only five minutes had passed since Kane’s goal when England found themselves 3-0 up. A header flicked onto the far post by Marc Guehi was guided into the opposition’s goal by Conor Gallagher. Jarrod Bowen then joined the party with a volleyed finish past Caoimhin Kelleher to make the score 4-0 on the night.

Lee Carsley bids farewell as manager names Thomas Tuchel as an ‘elite coach’
Lee Carsley has vacated his position with The Three Lions after an impressive spell in charge. However, the ‘real’ show is yet to start as Thomas Tuchel prepares to take charge as the new manager. As Carsley left his position following a 5-0 win, the tactician heaped praise on his successor.
He also predicted that Tuchel will most likely have a difficult time picking the squad as England play their Nations League knockout games in March 2025.

Harry Kane also spoke along similar lines after the win as he too acknowledged that choosing the squad in March will be a ‘tough’ job. However, Tuchel has experience managing top clubs across Europe and has also won the Champions League with Premier League side Chelsea. England fans have already come up with a ’10 German bombers’ chant for their new manager.
