It is difficult to conjure a situation in which the most expensive midfielder in the world becomes a benchwarmer. However, the same remains true for Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea, as the Argentine World Cup winner sees himself play a secondary role at the club under Enzo Maresca. The 23-year-old has fallen out of favor with Maresca and hasn’t started in the last three Premier League games for Chelsea.
Alarm bells were ringing for Fernandez a few days back as Maresca appeared to nullify his £107 million price tag as a reason for assured game time. As the player also battles through his split from partner and childhood sweetheart Valentina Cervantes, The Sun reports that both Barcelona and Inter Milan are interested in signing the midfielder.
Enzo Fernandez‘s massive Chelsea contract runs until 2032 and the club will not be willing to let him go without recovering a significant chunk of the fee they paid to Benfica.

As of now, it appears that Fernandez will have to accept his reality and help the team in whichever way Maresca wants him to.
Robert Sanchez and Chelsea’s looming goalkeeper problem
Despite spending over $1.3 billion since Todd Boehly‘s takeover, Chelsea seemingly haven’t found a solution for their goalkeeper problem. From Robert Sanchez to Filip Jorgensen, Marcus Bettinelli and Lucas Bergstrom, the Blues have four shot-stoppers at their disposal. Even though Sanchez has been the one to guard the sticks for the majority of games, the Spaniard has built up a reputation for making costly errors.
However, reports claim that the club are willing to back the 26-year-old and that he will reach his best form with time. As a result, Sanchez is set to retain his spot between the sticks for Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League game against Arsenal. Sanchez is under contract with the club till 2029 and will earn a total of close to $22 million.

Sanchez came under criticism for an error against Manchester United last weekend. The goalkeeper brought down United striker Rasmus Hojlund as he made his way into the penalty area. Fans are divided in their opinion as many want him to stay while others are calling for Sanchez to be sold. Chelsea are currently fourth in the League table with 18 points from ten games.
