Enzo Fernandez‘s father, Raul Fernandez has defended the Argentine star on his alleged racist celebration that targeted French players. A video went viral which captured the Argentine players celebrating their Copa America triumph with a song in the team bus which had racist slurs made toward the French players.

Raul Fernandez, Enzo’s dad has defended his son, stating that the latter even wasn’t aware of what he was singing. As per Enzo Fernandez‘s dad, the Europeans have twisted the meaning of the song as they are unaware of the Argentine football culture. Enzo Fernandez had already apologized to the world for his unintended racist celebrations.

I know who my son is. He is not like that! He's not racist, never! It's hard for a European to understand our football culture like chants and celebrations. He recorded that live video at an inopportune moment. It was bad, he didn't even realize what he was singing.

After Argentina went onto defeat Colombia in the final of the Copa America, winning the tournament for the 16th time, the celebrations ran wild for Lionel Messi and company. However, things took a sour turn in the team bus as on an Instagram live where Fernandez was seen being a part of the celebrations that caused a stir, targeting the French players featuring the likes of Wesley Fofana and Kylian Mbappe.

The contrasting fates of Argentina and France in their respective continental contests

France and Argentina had different fates in their respective continental tournaments. The 2022 World Cup finalists went onto start the Euro 2024 with a narrow win over Austria while following that up with a nail-biting draw against Netherlands.

Things didn’t really improve by leaps and bounds for the French team as they drew once again in the final group stage fixture against Poland. But when the time came knocking, France bested Belgium in an absolute thriller in the Round of 16 while knocking out Portugal in a tie-breaker eventually before bowing out to Spain in the semi-final.

For Argentina, though, they maintained an unbeaten run and stormed into the finals where they were being pushed to the fringes before Lautaro Martinez smashed the deadlock to propel Argentina to a stunning victory and another continental triumph.

More importantly, Argentina did it without Messi in the final minutes of the summit clash as he was out injured with a twisted ankle.
