Enzo Fernandez denies ‘hefty price-tag’ pressure as a reason for his initial Chelsea struggles

Argentinian World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez did find it difficult to make an impact at Chelsea initially after making a British-record move from Benfica in 2023. The stand-in Blues skipper, however, recently admitted that his £107 million price tag was not a factor in his early struggles.

Fans expected highly of the 23-year-old midfielder after he arrived at Stamford Bridge. However, he struggled due to persistent injuries and a loss of form. Speaking in an interview, Fernandez agreed that the first year was difficult for him, as the club wasn’t doing well, especially due to managerial changes. He added that the price tag did not affect him, as he took it responsibly.

It [price-tag] didn’t affect me. I tried to take it responsibly, with enjoyment, without pressure. I was not satisfied with what I had been showing, then I got injured.
