Chelsea picked up a huge win against Leicester City as club football returned to King Power Stadium following the International break. Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez bagged the goals for Enzo Maresca‘s side as the 2-1 victory helped them climb third place in the Premier League table.

Nicolas Jackson grabbed the first goal of the game in the 15th minute. Enzo Fernandez set up the striker as the No. 15 beat Mads Hermansen with a brilliant effort with the outside of his foot.

With the game hanging in the balance, Chelsea finally managed to pull away from the hosts through their midfielder worth €120 million. The Argentine got on the end of a rebound from Jackson, whose initial headed attempt was saved.

Fernandez’s header, however, was too powerful to be kept out, making it 2-0 in the 75th minute. Cole Palmer was denied an open goal opportunity as his shot deflected off of teammate Noni Madueke.

Enzo Fernandez’s first goal of season has Enzo Maresca buzzing

Enzo Maresca is a happy man. The Chelsea boss was delighted with the way his players performed in a 2-1 victory over his former side, Leicester City. However, one player in particular—Enzo Fernandez—stood out for the manager.

After a spell of poor form, the Argentine’s headed goal against Leicester marked his first goal of the season in the Premier League. Besides that, his assist for Nicolas Jackson means that the 23-year-old now has five assists in his last three games in all competitions for the Blues.

Following the win, Maresca heaped praise on his star midfielder, asking him for more of the same in coming games.

Enzo did very well today. I’m trying to convince Enzo the way I did last year with (Wilfred) Ndidi and Kiernan (Dewsbury-Hall). Attacking midfielders should come to the box and today he did.

Enzo Maresca told the press

Chelsea’s next game is against Heidenheim in the Conference League before facing Aston Villa in the Premier League.
