It was a tough outing for Chelsea at Anfield as Liverpool got the better of them to maintain their position at the top of the points table. It was a hard-fought win for the Reds, but they were clinical with the run-in and kept Chelsea at bay. However, Chelsea’s boss, Enzo Maresca, pointed out that his team was clearly the better side and just didn’t have the luck to get past the table-toppers.
After the defeat, talking at the post-match presser, Enzo Maresca claimed that it was overall a good game for Chelsea, but he is never an advocate of dropping points. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 29th minute from the penalty spot. Nicolas Jackson restored parity for Chelsea in the 48th minute. However, the joys for Chelsea were shortlived as Liverpool found their second shortly in just three minutes through Curtis Jones.

With this defeat, Chelsea dropped to the sixth position of the points table with four wins from eight matches. Liverpool remained at the top with 21 points from eight games, while Manchester City remained in hot pursuit with 20 points. Arsenal and Aston Villa remain in the third and fourth spots, respectively, with identical numbers of points.
Enzo Maresca revealed the real reason behind the substitution of Reece James and Romeo Lavia
Enzo Maresca also spoke about the quality of the goals that were conceded. He said that the first goal was a penalty, and it can happen. Meanwhile, the second goal, according to him, was scored in a manner that has already seen Chelsea avert five to six goals earlier. He also talked about the venue and the atmosphere, which made life difficult for the Blues, and yet, as per Maresca, they gave a tough fight against all the odds.
The Italian 44-year-old manager emphasized that there needs to be several changes to the side. He pointed out that the defensive line has been improving with time, but work still needs to be done.
He also pointed out that bringing on Reece James, who recently recovered from an injury, and Romeo Lavia was preplanned. Maresca wasn’t entirely sure of the duo, and hence the move on the pitch.
