Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca bizarrely claimed that young midfielder Moises Caicedo is on the same level as Manchester City’s Rodri and Arsenal’s Declan Rice. The Italian manager’s claim comes amid the Ecuadorian midfielder’s recent return to form, since joining the Blues last summer.
Moises Caicedo has made his name as one of the best holding midfielders in the EPL. The 23-year-old started out at Brighton, most notably helping them finish sixth during the 2022-23 EPL season. Despite drawing interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, Chelsea surprisingly signed him for a whopping £115 million last summer.
He failed to live up to his hefty price-tag during his first season at Stamford Bridge, under manager Mauricio Pochettino. However, under Enzo Maresca, the 23-year-old has reignited himself.
This season, Caicedo has started every EPL match for the Blues. He has also contributed with a goal and two assists. As Caicedo helped Chelsea reach the 2nd position on the EPL table, manager Enzo Maresca stating that the Ecuadorian has returned to his former best.
In a recent interview, the Italian manager interestingly claimed that the player is at the same level as two of EPL’s best midfielders, Rodri and Declan Rice. It is definitely a compliment for the Chelsea star to be compared to 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, Rodri.
He is for sure now at that level, no doubt. Unfortunately, Rodri is injured but Declan [Rice] is playing. But I think Moises [Caicedo] can sit at that table with that kind of midfielder.

Moises Caicedo will be hoping to continue his impressive rise, when his side next faces London rivals Tottenham in the EPL. He is expected to be paired alongside stand-in Chelsea skipper Enzo Fernandez or Romeo Lavia for their upcoming matches.
Enzo Maresca confirms that 23-year-old Chelsea winger will not be available against Tottenham
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca most recently confirmed that club forward Mykhaylo Mudryk will not be available for the club’s upcoming London derby encounter. The Ukrainian forward misses out due to illness, having also remained away from Chelsea’s last three Premier League matches.
The Blues have been lucky in terms of player availability this season. However, one notable absentee in their next match will be Mykhaylo Mudryk. Speaking to reporters ahead of the Tottenham match, Enzo Maresca confirmed that the Ukrainian winger is ill and needs rest. It would have been Mudryk’s hope of gaining confidence. He has underperformed with just three goals and four assists this season.
The other one [to miss out] is still ill is Misha Mudryk and the rest are okay.

However, his absence would not impact the Blues, as they have plenty of options in attack. Maresca could opt to start Jadon Sancho, who most recently scored his first goal for the club, or Portuguese stars Joao Felix and Pedro Neto.
