Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reiterated his view that the Blues are not competing for the EPL title, following their recent 2-0 defeat to Ipswich Town. The Italian manager refused to be too hard on his players, despite the shocking loss to 18th placed Ipswich.

The Blues, following their recent defeat away from home at Ipswich Town, are now on a three-match win-less run in the EPL. They have lost two games in a row, and have dropped to fourth position on the table. Against a relegation-battling Ipswich side, Chelsea faltered despite recording 20 shots and 76 percent possession. Liam Delap scored a 12th-minute penalty and assisted another goal to help Ipswich win. The newly-promoted EPL side interestingly claimed its first-ever top-flight home win in 22 years.

Speaking to reporters after the match, manager Enzo Maresca once again reminded fans that his side are far from competing with the EPL’s best teams this season, and challenge for the title. Maresca exclaimed that he had predicted this kind of a moment to come during the season. Moreover, he surprisingly added that the Blues have performed beyond expectations, as they remain among the top four on the EPL table.

Not one of us in this room expected us to be where we are now… This means that we are in the right direction, but also shows that we are far from competing to be there with the best teams in England.

Meanwhile, the Italian manager also heaped praise on the Man of the Match, forward Liam Delap for his brilliant display. Having previously played under Maresca, the 21-year-old ex-Manchester City forward is being tipped to make a move to a big club in the future.

The Blues are reportedly willing to recall Argentine wonder-kid Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors. The decision comes just a few months after loaning him out to the club. The 19-year-old defender is expected to arrive in London next month, in order to link-up with Enzo Maresca’s side.

Anselmino was signed by the Blues this summer for €17 million, after a brilliant season for Boca Juniors. He committed his long-term future to the EPL side, signing a seven-year deal. However, he returned to Boca on loan, and was expected to spend the rest of the season in Argentina. Chelsea has now decided to recall the youngster from his loan spell.

A talented center-back, Aaron Anselmino has been crucial for Boca Juniors. He made 18 appearances for the club, scoring two goals and providing three assists. He would be a brilliant addition to Enzo Maresca’s side, in their race to silverware this season.
