Beginning January 2025, Monday Night Raw will no longer air on the USA Network. Instead, for the first time in over 30 years, the flagship show will quit linear television to commence streaming on Netflix. There’s been a ton of speculation regarding what impact that will have on the company’s on-screen product. Whatever that might be, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff is hoping it’s nothing too far.
Speaking on the 83 Weeks podcast, Easy E cautioned WWE against going too far with the content in terms of edginess and maturity. Eric said that they could loosen the strings a bit on the verbiage but should refrain from dropping F-bombs. The former Raw GM affirmed that it’s not going to be that radically different with WWE taking the utmost care of their long-term advertising partners.
Recently, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H, gave a little insight into what the fans could expect from Raw’s move to Netflix. While making an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, The Game confirmed that they won’t be having any censorship issues once Raw goes off cable TV. Hunter explained how it’s going to be a day-and-night experience as to what they’re seeing on SmackDown right now.
Just don't go too far. Do we want to see it more edgy? More mature? Yeah, loosen up a little on language but I don't want to hear F-Bombs.Eric Bischoff via 83 Weeks podcast
The Cerebral Assassin elucidated how folks over there at FOX Network stay keen on bleeping out any non-PG chants, or worse, they just blacken up the screen. There won’t be any such hawkish treatment with Raw being Netflix-bound. Once the move is done, WWE will have access to nearly 70 million of those subscribers who’re solely based in the US and Canada.
John Cena will be there for WWE Raw’s premiere on Netflix
Last Saturday at Money in the Bank, John Cena announced that he’d embark on a retirement tour. Next year will be his last one as an in-ring performer. Having said that, The Cenation Leader did confirm that he’ll be there on Raw for its debut on Netflix.
And as per a recent report from WRKD Wrestling, the 16-time World Champion will be heavily factored into episodes of Raw on Netflix, kicking off his final run with WWE. The wrestler-turned-actor said he hopes to continue wrestling until the conclusion of 2025.
Several names have already started to tease facing Cena, with CM Punk being a prominent name on that list. One can only imagine what’s in store for the fans once The Franchise Player returns to WWE for that last ride.
