What next for Erik ten Hag following United sacking?

Erik ten Hag was sacked by Manchester United on Monday as the club turned to his assistant, Ruud van Nistelrooy. The interim manager is to fill in till Ruben Amorim completes his notice period with Sporting.

That being said, Ten Hag is currently back in his hometown as he was spotted being ‘consoled’ by his parents. As of now, the former manager is tipped to head towards Austria.

Sources state that Ten Hag is expected to ‘retreat to his Austrian hideaway’ to blow off some steam after what has been a difficult few months. Ten Hag could only inspire his side to pick up four wins in the first 14 games of the season. After terminating his contract which runs until 2026, it is understood that the club will pay Ten Hag close to £15 million as compensation.

Despite his failures at United, the manager is still considered a strong figure in Germany. This is largely due to his successful two-year spell at Bayern Munich II.

Hence, a move to the Bundesliga in the future cannot be ruled out. As of now, Ten Hag is not linked with any club in Europe. United and Ruben Amorim have a mammoth task of finding a winning formula if they are to claim a spot in the upper half of the table.
