Erik ten Hag‘s difficulties at Manchester United keep going from bad to worse and more! The Red Devils’ boss was yet again made to answer uncomfortable questions from the press after a rather underwhelming display against title contenders Arsenal. Old Trafford was witness to their side going goalless against Mikel Arteta‘s side who clinched the early lead through Leandro Trossard.

Following the loss, Ten Hag came up with a justification that puts the blame on his side’s unfortunate injuries. The club are without several of their starters, ranging from Lisandro Martìnez to Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford. Ten Hag compared his side’s situation to that of Arteta’s, as if to justify why his side came up short on Sunday.

We had so many injuries in key areas - it was like swimming with your hands behind your back. Our opponent only had one player who wasn't 100% fit.
Erik ten Hag said in a post-match interview

Ten Hag also added that despite all the injuries, United made their way to a Cup final. The Dutchman also stressed that an injury-free team is crucial to progress.

Fans react to Erik ten Hag’s ‘justification’ to losing 1-0 to Arsenal

Manchester United haven’t had a season as bad as this in recent years. The numbers show that their 14 losses this season is their worst ever. While Ten Hag’s justification about injuries and absentees surely makes sense, several fans disagreed with him. A supporter said that Ten Hag is an extremely sore loser and the he simply can’t take a loss.

Another chipped in saying that certain players and managers will always complain no matter the result. A fan drew attention to the fact that Arsenal made it to the Champions League in a year where they had the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Andrey Arshavin and Emmanuel Eboué. A fan claimed that even he didn’t hate United prior to Ten Hag.

A supporter opined that the injury excuse shouldn’t even be a thing at a club like United. Names like deflection merchant and waffling professional were also thrown around by fans.

As it stands, United are 8th in the Premier League with 54 points from 36 games. Even though it is mathematically possible, it is unlikely that United land a European spot this season. Will Ten Hag be in charge next season? Only time will tell.
