Manchester United haven’t had the best of starts to their season. With back-to-back losses, the Red Devils are currently 14th in the table. Boss Erik ten Hag recently lashed out against a reporter for questioning his tactics after the 3-0 loss.
He defended his side by stating that United have won the most titles after Manchester City in recent years. With fans calling for the Dutchman to be sacked once again, club CEO Omar Berrada has come forward to put and end to all the chatter.
We think Erik is the right coach for us and we're fully backing him.Omar Berrada told the press
United recently extended Ten Hag’s contract after the former Ajax manager led them to an FA Cup title last season. Contractually bound to the club till 2026, INEOS spent quite a lot on players in the transfer window.
From Manuel Ugarte to Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, the club have a lot of new players at their disposal. Sporting director Dan Ashworth stated that he has thoroughly enjoyed his last eight weeks working with Ten Hag.
Major signings under Erik ten Hag, a hit or a miss?
Erik ten Hag took charge of Manchester United in 2022 and has won the EFL Cup and the FA Cup with the Red Devils. Despite the club’s aggressive stance in the transfer market, many argue that they are yet to fix basic issues in team structure and man management. The club’s most recent signings include Leny Yoro, De Ligt, Mazraoui, Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee. Yoro is out with an injury and will not play for them until around Christmas.
In a recent post released by Sky Sports, it was revealed that the club have spent about £616 million in transfers alone in the Ten Hag era. Prior to the United game, Ten Hag stated that he isn’t ‘Harry Potter’, pointing to how Ugarte is yet to play this season and that the Uruguayan needs to build fitness.
Even though it can be argued that the club are working to bring in the best players, the way they are implemented in the squad often backfires. Recurring injuries and poor form have also been the main reason why many have ‘flopped’ at United. As for Jadon Sancho, the Englishman is currently on loan at Chelsea after failing to find a spot in United’s squad once again.
