Is finishing eight in the Premier League a realist expectation for Manchester United? The Red Devils’ boss, Erik ten Hag claimed in a recent interview that he couldn’t be bothered about the possibility of him being sacked at the end of the season. A season marred with injuries and internal conflict has ultimately boiled down to United sitting at an unimpressive eighth spot.

When asked about his feelings toward a potential sacking at the end of the season, Ten Hag simply answered that the owners of the club have ‘common sense’. Fans were quick to remember how the club parted ways with manager Louis van Gaal in 2016 despite him winning the FA Cup.

I think they have common sense. They can see when you have 32 different backlines, lose eight centre-backs and have so many injuries, it will have a negative impact on the results.
Erik ten Hag said in a recent press conference

Manchester United and Ten Hag are in a similar position, with their final game of the season being the FA Cup final versus rivals Manchester City. The Red Devils’ next game is against Arsenal in the Premier League.

Man United zeroing in on Barcelona player amid contract ‘issues’

It is no secret that Manchester United are in dire need of reinforcements at the back. A quick look at their last ten games reveals that they’ve let in 3 or more goals on 4 separate occasions.

United’s most recent game ended in a 4-0 thumping at the hands of Crystal Palace. Therefore, a defender of the highest quality would be the best way to kick off Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s first transfer window in charge.

Ronald Araujo‘s name has been mentioned in several reports as a potential target for the Red Devils. The FC Barcelona centre-back has put up solid performances at the back throughout the season, except for ‘that’ unfortunate red card against PSG. The Blaugrana have offered a renewed contract to the Uruguayan but it yet to receive a reply.

It is understood that the player is in no hurry to put pen to paper and if the club don’t hear back from him soon, they might consider selling him. However, it is known that Man United will have to produce over €100 million if they are to bring in the 25-year-old to Old Trafford. Araujo’s current contract with Barcà keeps him at the club till 2026.
